Freedom Reigns! Happy Independence Day!

The Power of Partnership is highlighted, once again, to help SFSD families get connected to affordable internet. The SF Area Community Foundation is investing $50,000 to enroll households in the Affordable Connectivity Program (AFP). SD Voices for Peace leads the effort.
Voices for Peace is working with SFSD schools to inform families of this program. An enrollment specialist will continue to meet families during school events like parent-teacher conferences, success nights, etc. Eligible families should enroll today! GetInternet.gov

We're having an amazing last-day-of-school at Discovery; you can feel the excitement in the air!

Here are Feeding South Dakota's Mobile Food Distribution sites for May, June, and July.

Below are a few end-of-the-school year reminders!
- The last day of school is this Friday, May 26. Students will be dismissed at their regular time.
- On the last day of school, if your student normally rides the school bus or goes to daycare - and he/she will have a different after school plan - please let the office know. You can email Jasmine.Iddings@k12.sd.us or Jennifer.Hogan@k12.sd.us.
- Please pick-up your student(s) medication, inhaler, epi-pen, etc. by 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 30. Items not picked up will be disposed of. A parent/guardian must pick up the medication - it cannot be sent home with a student.
- We are not sending home or mailing hardcopies of fourth quarter report cards. You can access your student(s) grades through the Parent Portal.
- Lost & Found items that are not picked up by Friday, May 26, will be donated.
- The Discovery office will be closed from June 2 to August 4 for summer break. The office is also closed on Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day.
- The 2023-24 classroom assignments will be available in early August when we return from summer break. We will send an email when they are ready.
Thank you for another great year at Discovery!

Your preteen is navigating their first summer without childcare. Older siblings are caring for younger siblings at home and meal preparation is a little too much responsibility. You’ve hired a teenage companion to take your kids to the parks, camps, and activities but this means funds are tight for food.
These are all real scenarios playing out in homes and apartments across Sioux Falls. That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is proud to, once again, offer free breakfasts and lunches to all children, ages 1-18 during June and July 2023.
Using meal counts from previous summers, the Office of Child Nutrition established a schedule for breakfast to be offered at eight schools on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Lunch will be served Mondays through Thursdays at six locations and Monday through Friday at two locations. The schedule will be emailed to SFSD families and will be posted on the District’s website: sf.k12.sd.us. No income eligibility paperwork is required..

Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Reminder! If you haven’t already done so, please complete your student(s) annual update/registration for next year. We would like to get as many processed as possible by the end of the school year.
Without the annual update/registration, your student CANNOT:
- be in Discovery publications (school pictures, yearbook, etc.).
- go on field trips.
- be in other SFSD photos and videos.
Thank you - we appreciate it!

Classroom 302 got to experience what it is like to be paleontologists and dig for fossils (chocolate chips) from their chocolate chip cookies. They used magnifying glasses, tweezers, and brushes to help them extract the fossils. Looks like fun, 302!
